How does this help me?

We can provide short-term counselling support to discuss anything that is affecting your emotional wellbeing, as well as providing support for you to come to terms with your change in vision and the impact it is having on you.

You can receive support in a way that is best for you; whether that be by phone, video call, or in person. The counselling service is led by an accredited sight loss Counsellor; however, some counselling will be provided by student counsellors. We can also provide resources, advice, guidance, and workshops to help you improve emotional resilience and wellbeing.

Counselling FAQs

How many weeks can I receive counselling for?

We set a guideline for around six weeks, however, if we feel that you would benefit from some more sessions with our Counsellor(s), we can extend sessions based on your needs.

Who is the counselling service for?

The counselling service is aimed at providing emotional support to help you navigate the emotional impact of sight loss and vision impairment, however, you can discuss any aspects of your life that may be impacting your emotional wellbeing. Prior to commencing counselling, the Counsellor will triage you to ensure counselling support is appropriate and right for you at that time. If it is not, we may signpost or make suggestions on the next steps for you to take.

What type of counselling do we provide?

Our Counsellors are trained in different approaches and sessions can be tailored to the client, however, sessions will be mainly facilitated using a person-centred approach, providing a confidential non-judgemental safe space for you to process your emotions, build self-awareness, resilience and improve overall wellbeing.

Where will I receive counselling support?

We can provide counselling via Teams, phone, or in person. The Counsellor will determine suitability through triage about how counselling will be facilitated dependant on your needs.

Who will facilitate the counselling?

Our counselling service is provided by qualified Counsellors, volunteers and student Counsellors who have undergone the necessary training to practice and our Counsellor is registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
