How does this help me?
Our friendly Digital Skills Officers work with people with vision impairments to enable them to confidently use digital technology.
We work with everything from smartphones and apps to Alexa’s and laptops, in order to increase independence and reduce isolation. This is a service which can be accessed from the comfort of your own home. Click here to read an interview with one of our Digital Skills Officer
Digital Skills FAQs
I need advice on which smart phone/tablet/accessibility software might be the best fit for me. Can you help?
Yes! We can provide advice on the pros and cons of different devices and software, as well as demonstrations of some devices, in order to help you decide what might be the best device for you.
I/my relative/friend has lost most of their sight. Can I/they still use technology?
Absolutely. Many people with little or no vision can and do use computers, tablets and smart phones. If you are interested in learning about how technology can be made accessible for people with severe sight loss, we can help.
I want to get more confident with shopping online/using social media/accessing audiobooks on my device. Is this something you can help with?
Yes – we believe that being confident with technology can increase independence and reduce isolation, and we are happy to provide support not only with using your device accessibly, but also in growing your confidence in using your device for specific tasks.
I run a group for another charity/organisation. Are you able to give a tech talk to my group?
As long as your group is based in one of our areas (North Wales, West Cheshire, Halton) we are happy to schedule a visit to your group. We can give talks on accessible technology as a whole, or geared towards specific topics (for instance, online safety) depending on your preference.
Some Kind Words About Our Services
“Thank you for helping me set up my Alexa and iPad. It has given me independence and has had a significant impact on us both, as we no longer have to rely on family members.”
“I was missing out on communicating with family and friends but with your help I now feel more confident using my iPad and iPhone to keep in touch with them. I can also use them to listen to the radio and use the iPad to watch TV”
“Thanks to you I am now able to use my technology for daily tasks, listening to music and so much more. I now use technology almost every day and I am beginning to feel more confident with it. My goal is to reach a point where I feel confident enough to discover new apps and features for myself, something which I would never have thought possible six months ago.”
“Thank you I really appreciate your help because I’m just feeling quite lost at the moment because I use to rely on my wife so much but unfortunately she passed away last year so I really do appreciate everything. Many thanks”
“I finally agreed to have an Alexa in the house, even though I’ve always been reluctant about technology. Now, I love it! I can check what’s on TV, get the weather, play music, set timers—it’s wonderful. My family has been trying to persuade me for ages, and I’m so glad I gave it a chance.”
